Imagine Smart Home

Boulder, Colorado

New Construction/ Institutional / Energy Efficient

The first “smart home” of its kind in Colorado; this Group home for residents with physical and mental disabilities features a floor plan with an open communal kitchen, living room and dining room, as well as private bedrooms and staff spaces. All spaces are drenched in sunlight from numerous skylights, solar tubes, and clerestory windows. Adaptive technologies, such as a sink that raises and lowers, allows mobile residents or those in wheelchairs to wash vegetables or do dishes. Counter tops and shelving also raise and lower to accommodate residents with different disabilities. The home is extremely sustainable with geothermal heating and cooling, solar domestic hot water, photovoltaic panels, an energy efficient envelope, and recycled materials.
